Society President, Dietrich Werner (below, right), welcomed Art Church (below, left) to the opening day of the Snyder Estate.

As cities, towns and villages sprouted up along the banks of the Hudson River and along its creeks and canals, the population grew and goods and services were in demand. To help fill those needs, potteries and glass houses and factories were born. Basic containers were produced to hold such things as food, drink and medicine. The manufacturing of those containers started additional businesses. These businesses played a major role in the growth of the Hudson Valley region.

The exhibit shows a broad range of glass and stoneware products and related items from the Hudson Valley which were used to contain, transport and sell various products. They will include wine, whiskey, beer, ink, snuff, mineral waters, food, fruit, perfume, medical cures, remedies and poisons. Many of the items in the exhibit are on loan from members of the Hudson Valley Bottle Club.

The Hudson Valley Bottle Club meets the third Friday of the month at 8 pm at the Marlboro Presbyterian Church in Marlboro, NY. For more information, contact Art Church at 411 Hillside Lake Road, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590 or by e-mail at: Art3622@aol.com.
